REDISCOVERING MERLOT...
Merlot is a classic member of the traditional
grape varietals club, whether as a solo wine or in a blend,
it is time to revisit this wonderful wine. Long seen as an underdog,
Merlot is none the less the most widely planted grape of Bordeaux.
Merlot is a close relation and most commonly
blended with the Cabernet. Merlot, it expands the middle palette
and softens the wine removing some of the austere Cabernet
elements. Transported to Tuscany by Catherine Medici it has
a great affinity for the climate, soil and has proved to be
great in combination with Sangiovese. Creating some of the
most fabulous wines as the Super Tuscans Merlots
aging characteristics are more forward than Cabernet and yet
like Cabernet it is best enjoyed with some bottle age.
Some of the worlds most famous wines
are Merlot as Chateau Petrus from Pomerol and the Masseto
from Tuscany.

PODERI CRISCI Merlot has a rounded
fruitfulness, with low natural acidity giving a lush mouth
feel. Grapes are hand picked and meticulously selected. The
wine has a natural affinity to French oak barrel and with
ripe fruit we leave it to mature in barrique for 18 months,
using 30% new oak. We press into barrels after primary fermentation.
Final blending includes a small percentage of Cabernet Franc.
